INTERIOR REMODELS
Lakefront Interior Remodel in Middleton, WI
Our clients purchased their dream lakefront property, a home with several additions and remodels over the years. As they transitioned from their country home to this full-time residence, they knew a major remodel was essential to truly make it theirs.
We embarked on a comprehensive renovation to blend the charm of its previous updates with modern touches tailored to their lifestyle. The goal was to enhance the home’s functionality while highlighting its picturesque lake views, creating a perfect retreat for their family.
The kitchen was high on the priority list. The owners envisioned a space where they could sit at an island and take in the stunning lake views. Unfortunately, the existing kitchen layout featured a peninsula that faced the neighbor’s house instead of the lake. The kitchen also flowed awkwardly into the old mudroom, which was once the original kitchen and still had the original metal cabinetry and a washer and dryer.
The great room also needed attention. The existing fireplace was neither energy-efficient nor aesthetically pleasing, and the room’s windows lacked proper structural framing. Additionally, the first-floor bathroom was narrow, outdated, and lacked storage, making it difficult to navigate.
Design Solution
To create an open and functional space, we removed the structural load-bearing wall between the great room, dining area, and kitchen, allowing for a new island and reconfigured cabinetry. The washer and dryer were relocated to a closet in the mudroom, making room for a clothes bench, wine refrigerator, and additional storage.

New LVP flooring was installed throughout for ease of maintenance, along with updated interior doors and trim. The fireplace received a new gas insert and an updated mantle/façade. The first-floor bathroom was remodeled with a larger shower, new finishes, and cabinetry. Part of the long, narrow garage was converted into a storage/mudroom, with an enlarged doorway for better integration with the kitchen.
Challenge
During the demolition phase, we discovered that the lake windows lacked the correct structural components. To address this, we properly reframed the windows to ensure structural integrity. Additionally, we evaluated the centrally located mechanical room and determined that relocating it would incur excessive costs. Consequently, we decided to keep it in its original location while proceeding with other necessary adjustments.
Result
The transformation was stunning. The new spaces maximized the beautiful lake views and enhanced the home’s functionality. With updated cabinetry, finishes, and appliances, the family can now entertain and enjoy their home year-round, living out their lakefront dreams to the fullest.
