REMODELING NEED

Recently retired and passionate about entertaining, this Madison homeowner felt her home no longer suited her lifestyle. The awkward kitchen layout limited her ability to host gatherings effectively, while the finishes—flooring, trim, paint, tile, countertops, appliances, furniture, and window treatments—were outdated and out of sync with her style.

The built-in desk in the kitchen went unused, and the dining area lacked functional storage. In the living room, the outdated fireplace was not only inefficient but also failed to provide the warmth and aesthetic she envisioned.

DESIGN SOLUTION

The Sweeney design team focused on enhancing functionality and aesthetics while aligning the home with the client’s new lifestyle. The kitchen was redesigned to include a spacious new island to facilitate entertaining and meal preparation. It is finished with Seville cabinetry painted in a dark, blackened blue called Nightfall and is topped with Sodalite Blue granite. The striking backsplash is an MSI Highland Park Bay Blue tile with the same color accent tile in an Arabesque-style pattern.

The unused desk area was transformed into a space for sleek new built-in wall ovens, optimizing the layout. All appliances were updated to modern standards, seamlessly blending form and function.

A wine refrigeration system was installed in the dining area to add convenience and elevate the entertaining experience. An energy-efficient gas fireplace was installed in the living room, adding warmth and a contemporary focal point.

The guest bathroom was completely transformed with a built-in Seville slab door vanity, a shower featuring CTW Splendorous tile, and a herringbone-patterned Castelli Marble floor, all contributing to its fresh, modern look.

A highlight is the white wall paneling designed in the hall and entryway of the home, creating a sleek, sophisticated feel. All trim and doors throughout the home were replaced and painted in a fresh, bright white. The existing windows were also painted to blend with the updated aesthetic. This unified the home’s overall look, creating a modern, elegant feel while meeting the client’s desire for a more stylish and functional space.

This comprehensive remodel transformed a dated home into a stylish and functional space, perfectly suited to the homeowner’s lifestyle. The redesigned kitchen, featuring a spacious island and modern appliances, now facilitates seamless entertaining. The dining area gained a wine refrigeration system for added convenience, while the living room boasts a new energy-efficient fireplace. Throughout the home, updated finishes, including fresh trim, doors, and a completely renovated guest bathroom, created a cohesive, modern aesthetic that exceeded the homeowner’s expectations — she was ‘over the top happy’ with the end result.
